The former technical director of the Cuban national volleyball team, Nicolás Vives, will return to coaching in the Indonesian Proliga at the helm of the Jakarta Lavani club, with which he was crowned champion.

According to an announcement on social media, Vives returns with the club that he led to win the second consecutive title in that championship, the first for the Cuban coach in professional circuits.

A few months ago, the hiring of Nicolás Vives as technical director of Lavani, the current champion of the Indonesian Proliga, was announced, along with Cuban assistant Jorge González García, who is 2.04 m tall and 31 years old.

This represented an opportunity for advancement for Vives, who last season worked at the Hatta Club Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, and who had been coaching the national teams of different categories since 2017, until he was removed from his position with the senior team.

Shortly after, Jakarta Lavani arrived as the favorite for the final with the intention of defending their title and facing them was Bhayangkara, also under Cuban coach Reidel Toiran, to provide a championship match between directors from the island, something unprecedented until then.

The result would be a victory in 5 sets (25-22, 22-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-9) for the more experienced of the two, Nicolás Vives, who was also recognized as the best coach of the entire competition.

The Caribbean Jorge González García also played in his ranks, while the defeated team included center Henry Pelayo.
