My friend Alicia is the title of the exhibition by Cuban painter Nelson Domínguez that can be seen today at the Universal Art Gallery in the city of Güines, 54 kilometers south of this capital.
In the exhibition, the 2009 National Prize for Plastic Arts shares a group of works in which he poured his admiration and respect for the Prima ballerina assoluta, with whom he shared a close relationship of friendship and creativity for years.
The exhibition coincides with the recent commemoration, on December 21st, of Ibero-American Dance Day, the birthday of she who was for decades also director of the National Ballet of Cuba.
Regarding the exhibition, the artist declared to the press that after creating his work Alicia, national bird, a collection began to grow that has circulated through almost the entire country, from Baracoa to the Isle of Youth.
At the opening, the director of the National Dance Museum, Pedro Simón, noted that My friend Alicia is the result of an important artistic relationship, to the point that many of the works arose with the collaboration of the dancer herself.
