Nachito Herrera and Bobby Carcasés official opening of Jazz Plaza

With the performances of Cuban musician Ignacio "Nachito" Herrera, resident in the United States, and maestro Bobby Carcasés, the 37th edition of the International Jazz Plaza Festival was officially inaugurated in this capital.

The National Theater hosted in its Avellaneda hall the opening gala of this edition of the popular jazz festival in Cuba, whose stage was shared by the aforementioned Cuban musicians and their guests.

The night kicked off with Nachito Herrera, who commented on feeling proud and expressed that it was a pleasure for him to be surrounded by so many members of the audience and personalities whom he admires.

Thus, he thanked the presence of the musician whom he considers one of his idols, and whom he affectionately called "my uncle," maestro César "Pupy" Pedroso; and someone who, he said, defends what he has defended his whole life, that music is one, maestro Frank Fernández.

For Herrera, nothing was better than playing with the musicians accompanying him and thus warming up, already far from Minnesota, the cold American state where he resides.

Along with the Habana Jazz orchestra, he performed songs such as Stella By Starlight, a Medley of Cha Cha Chá, Guaguanco Para Chano and West Side Latin Jazz.

After his performance, the Cuban pianist ceded the stage to whom he considered the star of the night, maestro Bobby Carcasés, along with his show: From Blues to Timba - From Timba to Jazz.

Accompanied by the Big Band Afrojazz, the man considered Cuba's Showman, put at the audience's disposal songs of his authorship, as well as jazz standards.

Zule Guerra, César López and Orlando Valle (Maraca) were among the guests who shared the stage during the performance with Carcasés, founder of the Festival that brought everyone together on the night.

The 37th edition of the International Jazz Plaza Festival will take place until next Sunday, January 23rd, when likewise in the Avellaneda hall, the closing gala of the event will occur.
