Mother of Cuban actress and singer Rebeca Martínez dies

The mother of Cuban actress and singer Rebeca Martínez died this week on the island, after being hospitalized in intensive care.

Manolo Sabin, a Cuban close to the artist, confirmed the news this Thursday through social media.

"At 4:30 pm today, August 31st, Pily passed away, as we always affectionately called her, the mother of my goddaughter and lifelong sister Rebeca Martínez," he wrote on Facebook.

"Many blessings Pily, you are now in God's presence, you will always be in our hearts. Today I have no more words, but my heart is by your side every second Rebe," he added.

"A strong embrace in Christ for you my friend, sister and goddaughter of my soul," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Cuban activist who identifies as Lara Crofs also reported on the death.

"Mommy Pili has passed away, the mother of our beloved Rebeca Martínez. My deepest condolences, dear Rebeca, in these difficult moments, much light for your mommy, may she rest in peace," she said.

Rebeca herself had said that her mother was hospitalized.

"My beautiful online Family, many have written to me privately worried about my absence on social media. Mommy Pili's health deteriorated suddenly and rapidly, she was admitted to the ward for 9 days and is now in intensive care," said the artist.

"We are in God's hands and in the hands of science. Thank you for all the prayers and good thoughts you want to send our way," she added.

"Hugs from the deepest part of my being. I love you and want to see you well. Love is repaid with love," concluded the Cuban woman who has accumulated thousands of followers on social media.
