Dr. Fabio Raimundo Torrado, who dedicated his life to the development of Legal Sciences, passed away on January 9, 2022, leaving a notable record of service as a founding member of the National Union of Jurists of Cuba, and as associate senior professor of the Ñico López Higher School of the Party, of the Center for Preparation and Advancement of the Ministry of Justice and of the Faculty of Law of the University of Havana.
He worked as a prosecutor for the FAR and as second chief of the Military Prosecutor's Office. He was a combatant at the Bay of Pigs and a delegate to the first Congress of the Party.
He served for almost five decades, until his death, as an official of the auxiliary structure of the Central Committee of the Party in the offices of the Second Secretary since its creation and subsequently in those of the First Secretary, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz.
He developed intense legislative activity, as part of the working groups that drafted the Penal Code, the Electoral Law and the National Defense Law, among others, as well as being part of the drafting group of the Constitutional Reform of 1992.
The National Union of Jurists also highlighted his status as a member of the Cuban Society of Constitutional and Administrative Law, and his authorship of texts on human rights and the political system in Cuba.
Fabio Raimundo Torrado received several decorations and distinctions, among which stands out the National Prize for Law Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, in 2018.
