Roca was a decorated military pilot in Cuba, and was also the son of Blas Roca, who was a Cuban politician with communist ideology, who for many years served as general secretary of the Popular Socialist Party and of the first Communist Party. Vladimiro Roca was 80 years old at the time of his death.
