The humorist, professor and outstanding intellectual from Matanzas, Moisés Rodríguez, better known as Moisés el de la Seña, has been awarded the National Humor Prize 2024, the most important recognition for a lifetime of work dedicated to humor, granted by the Ministry of Culture, in coordination with the Humor Promotion Center and the National Council of Performing Arts.
According to a note published by Cubaescena, the jury was chaired by Eider Pérez, director of the Humor Promotion Center, and was made up of, in addition, the actor and dean of the Faculty of Theatrical Art of the University of the Arts, ISA, Luis Enrique Amador Quiñones (Kike Quiñones), journalist and art critic Yuris Nórido, and cartoonists Adán Iglesias (ADAN), and Arístides Hernández (ARES), National Humor Prize 2020.
Moisés Rodríguez is founder, together with José (Pepe) Pelayo and Aramís Quintero, of the legendary humor group La Seña from Matanzas; and continued for many years that singular style in Cuban humor that marked popular preference from the stage and in other audiovisual media.
He is also known for the popular duo Los Robertos that he carried out with humorist Lázaro Hernández. He has been a promoter of multiple cultural projects in his native province, where he created a Festival (for many scholars, a precursor of the Aquelarre), known as the Melocactus Matanzanus.
He founded and actively participated in the magazine La Seña, and the television program Señavisión; as well as the radio space Teorética.
The award ceremony will take place in the José White Concert Hall in Matanzas, on Tuesday, April 1st, at 4:00 pm.
