The Cuban Milena Venegas qualified for Tokyo-2020, after finishing fourth in the A final, in the lightweight category, held yesterday afternoon, at the rowing pre-Olympic championship, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Venegas reached the competition for the spots after finishing second in her semifinal, and secured her pass to the Games, with a time of 08:14.25 minutes. The performance of the athlete from Spiritus ensured the presence of Cuban rowing at the Japanese capital, which will not be able to count on more athletes, since the others with possibilities of qualifying did not achieve that objective.
Carlos Ajete seemed destined to obtain the spot, after winning his semifinal, with a time of 7:06.12 minutes, but a break in his boat prevented him from performing at the top of his possibilities, and he finished last in the A final, reported coach Joan Manuel Paula.
The other Cuban boat in the competition, the lightweight double pair of Osvaldo Pérez and Alexei Carballosa, won the B final in the afternoon, with 07:08.73 minutes, and finished in seventh place overall.
