Cuban wrestler Milaimys Marín won gold in the women's freestyle 76-kilogram division at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026, capping a day that underscored Cuba's dominance in women's wrestling at the regional event.
Marín, a bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb, arrived in Santo Domingo as one of Cuba's top medal hopes and delivered, adding another title to a career that began in 2018 with gold at the Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games.
The Havana native's performance was part of a strong showing for Cuban women's wrestling, which claimed multiple titles across weight categories during the competition, confirming the rise of Cuban women's freestyle wrestling on the regional and international stage in recent years.
Born March 16, 2001, Marín now stands as one of the most consistent success stories in contemporary Cuban sport, with Pan American and World junior titles and now a new Central American gold to go with her Olympic medal.
