The Brazilian Union of Writers distinguished, in Havana, the poet Miguel Barnet with the Jorge Amado Medal for the hierarchy of his literary work, the most important recognition of the organization.
Barnet is considered by the organization as the representation of Cuban culture and an exemplary author for his contributions to literature.
The board of directors of the Brazilian Union of Writers made the decision effective through its president, Durval de Nogueriras Goyos Yunior, who traveled to the Island.
In thanking the decoration, Barnet explained how he found in Jorge Amado's narrative the magma of miscegenation, and what the African legacy represents in Brazilian society.
