'I conceived this work during Alicia Alonso's career as a Cuban dancer and choreographer, in the performances of Giselle, Carmen and other great works of the classical and romantic repertoire.' revealed the acclaimed painter Nelson Domínguez

The personal exhibition My Friend Alicia, from the brush of Nelson Domínguez, National Prize for Plastic Arts, opened in the city of Santa Clara, in central Cuba. Displayed in the gallery of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) in this city, the itinerant monographic exhibition pays homage to Cuban Prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso (Havana 1920-2019).

The gallery combines painting, drawing, engraving, bronze and wood sculpture with different techniques and supports such as canvases and installation, among others.

It consists, furthermore, of 45 pieces dedicated to one of the most relevant personalities in the history of dance and a leading figure of classical ballet.

The painter emphasized that the exhibition brings together different images of Alicia Alonso based on interpretations that he freely created of the dancer.

'The exhibition will remain in the city of Santa Clara for a month and I hope that people interested in art can come visit it' Domínguez declared, one of the greatest exponents of contemporary Cuban painting.

He also revealed that Alicia Alonso distinguished him as her friend, and that the exhibition was born by chance, after he began by making a portrait of the late dancer and then delved into the character and continued making the other works.

In this exhibition, which has toured several provinces of the country, Nelson Domínguez demonstrates why he is one of the most important names in contemporary Cuban art, with exhibitions in prestigious galleries and collections in countries such as Japan, United States, Holland, Mexico, Guatemala, among others.
