Meteorologist José Rubiera remains admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Cardiovascular Surgery Institute following an angioplasty for myocardial infarction

The beloved and respected Cuban meteorologist José Rubiera is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery in Havana, where he is recovering after undergoing surgery following a cardiovascular episode, confirmed to Cubadebate by his wife Yamilys.

Today a stent was placed on him because he had a blocked artery. The attending physician assured that he is evolving satisfactorily and that soon "he will be back in the fight alongside his people to report on hurricanes".

Rubiera, who was director of the National Forecast Center of Cuba's Institute of Meteorology, is the most respected face on the Island when it comes to meteorology.

Rubiera had gone to the center this Monday for personal reasons and while there he felt unwell. "He is in serious condition, after an angioplasty and placement of a stent in the Intensive Coronary room of the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery", the note explains.
