Melissa Vargas is the best volleyball player in the world in 2023

Cuban-born Melissa Vargas, naturalized by Turkey, crowned an excellent 2023 in professional volleyball with the distinction of being the best player of the year, according to a specialized website. This is a ranking dominated by players born on the island, in both sexes.

According to the specialized website and international volleyball database, Volleybox, the 24-year-old Cuban was the best volleyball player of the year, thanks to her individual performance and collective results.

Above stars like Brazilian Gabriela Guimarães, Vargas closed the year with the highest vote on the cited website, with 1100.50 points, the only one in the ranking that exceeds one thousand points.

Melissa Vargas won the Turkish League this year, finished in second place in the Cup and, at the national team level, won the Nations League and the European Championship with the Eurasian nation.

At EuroVolley, Melissa was second in points scored (201) and in aces with 19, a demonstration of her weapons to inflict damage. In the final, she added three points with her serve and 38 in attack.

Let us recall that, before EuroVolley, the Eurasian nation achieved its first title in the history of the Nations League and she was recognized with several awards, including that of most valuable player (MVP).

Since 2018, Melissa Vargas has played in leagues in Turkey and China, until in 2021 she became a Turkish citizen.

After the two years imposed by the FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) to represent a new team different from her country of origin, Melissa was ready to be eligible.

In that same ranking, Miguel Ángel López appears as the leading exponent of world volleyball for men, with 955.00 points. Close to the flying Cuban is Wilfredo León, in fourth place.
