Kenia Borges Brotón from Matanzas, a bartender at the Meliá Internacional Varadero Hotel, won in the National category at the first edition of the Barlady International Bartending Championship, held on March 8-9 in Athens, Greece.
With the cocktail Perla del Norte, inspired by her roots, Kenia prevailed over representatives from 16 countries, an unprecedented triumph achieved by the only representative from the American continent, published on Facebook by the Varadero Bartenders Association.
"This award is dedicated to my family and to all Cuban women and everyone who contributed their grain of sand," Kenia posted on her Facebook, after thanking neighbors, friends and institutions for their support.
Nastia Valdés, delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in Matanzas province, congratulated Kenia for "representing our culture with excellence in the international sphere," a tribute also made by Ismary Hernández Pérez, director of Gran Caribe in this western territory, the chain to which the Meliá Internacional Varadero hotel belongs.
Kenia, who placed on the podium at the most important national bartending championship of 2023, was recently recognized with the Meliá Distingue, awarded by the prominent Spanish company to workers with outstanding performance results.
