The renowned actress María Isabel Díaz Lago, who became an Almodóvar Girl, published this weekend a TBT or memory with the admired Spanish film director to whom she owes the aforementioned designation.

"#PedroAlmodóvar", she wrote, "this photo is exactly from 15 years ago".

They were at that moment, according to the actress, celebrating the birthday of the director of "The Skin I Live In"; All About My Mother; "Pain and Glory", among other films that endure for their emotional impact on the memory of cinephiles.

What is interesting is that this birthday was, as María Isabel says, "in the middle of shooting #Volverlapelícula", in which she shared leading roles and scenes with Spanish actress Penélope Cruz.

The artist born in Havana, Cuba, on July 4, 1964 and graduated in acting from the Instituto Superior de Arte wished her colleague: "Happy birthday, Pedro, with all my affection and a big kiss"

Known since her role in A Bride for David, this first Cuban "Almodóvar Girl" for her performance in Volver, María Isabel made news in her native country, after several years, when the popular Edith Massola invited her to her program 23 y M, and to the surprise of the audience, the "Fat One" who wanted to be David's bride, is now thin.

As for the small screen, the masterful interpretation in Vis a Vis of the character Soledad Núñez Hurtado "Sole", one of the main inmates of the prison, is well known.

This prison thriller produced by Globomedia and for Atresmedia, where she played Sole, provided the talented Cuban woman with definitive visibility among television viewers and professionals in the Spanish acting industry. Some place it as a 180° turn in the actress's career.

For her character in Vis a Vis she also received the Ondas Award in 2016 and, in 2017, was nominated as best supporting actress at the Unión de Actores y Actrices awards.

She, who has resided in Spain since 1996, where she has worked with notable directors, has been given the choice between Almodóvar and 'Vis a Vis' and has said she is keeping both. "And between Almodóvar, 'Vis a Vis' and 'A Bride for David', with all three, because everything one does in life, if you do it with responsibility and desire, and you enjoy it, is wonderful", she assessed.
