Teacher Digna Guerra represents Cuban choral movement in the Philippines

The Cuban choral movement shines today following the participation of the director of the National Choir of Cuba, maestro Digna Guerra, as a judge in two important competitive events in Manila, Philippines.

For the first time an artist from the island and from the Caribbean region, prestige the competitions titled Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival and the First Grand Prix Coral of Asia.

As a faithful representative of Cuban culture on the other side of the planet, Guerra participated on the eve in the conclusions of the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Competition, held in the city of Tanghalang from July 18 to 21.

The meeting that welcomed representatives from Indonesia, Poland, Philippines, Singapore, among others awarded prizes in the categories Folklore, Equal Voices and Mixed Choir.

Along with the Cuban, the judges prestige the event, Werner Pfaff (Germany) David Squire (New Zealand), Jason Max Ferdinand (United States) and the local Mark Anthony Carpio.

Guerra, full professor at the Superior Institute of Art, also serves as president of the Cuban Association of Choirs and the International Festival América Cantat, vice president of the Coral Federation of the Caribbean and member of the World Federation of Choirs.

For its part, the Grand Prize Coral of Asia, brings together the winners of the most important events in the region in 2017 and 2018, such as the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, The International Choral Festival of Bali, Indonesia and The International Choral Festival of Singapore.

On this occasion choirs participated in the biennial event, from the University of Brawijaya, from St. Louis Secondary School, the E Deum Voice, the Armónico Vocalista ISI of Yogyakarta and the Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Universitas Padjadjaran, from Indonesia, as well as the Choral Ensemble of the University of the Philippines Los Baños which obtained the grand prize of the competition.
