The Olympic champion from Tokyo-2020 and world champion of this year, Luis Orta, was chosen as the best gladiator of Greco-Roman style wrestling in the world, a designation made by the World Wrestling Union.
Orta, who in 2023 also prevailed, unquestionably, at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, and at the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, was the most outstanding athlete in individual sports in Cuba, in the voting by the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, and the press.

In that poll, the native of the capital slightly surpasses the Venezuelan professional baseball player with an outstanding performance in the just-concluded mlb season, Ronald Acuña and the world soccer superstar, Argentine Lionel Messi.
