Cuban actors Luis Alberto García and Héctor Noas have been nominated for the PRODU Awards, in the categories of Best Lead Actor and Supporting Actor respectively, for their roles in the series "El grito de las mariposas."
"Their versatility and ability to bring memorable characters to life have earned them recognition and awards throughout the years. Their mastery of acting technique has made them admired and respected actors," wrote the Facebook page of Cubaactores when announcing the nomination.
"Their nominations in the PRODU Awards are a clear testament to their dedication and talent in the art of performance," added this team.
The PRODU Awards recognize excellence in Latin production and promote it worldwide, and PRODU Technology Awards serve as a tribute to the industry that innovates year after year to offer the best tools to audiovisual production, describes the competition's website, whose awards ceremony is scheduled for November 1st and 2nd.
The series "El Grito de las Mariposas" is set in the Dominican Republic, during the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo and is inspired by the true story of the Mirabal sisters.
It explores the friendship between Minerva Mirabal, the first female lawyer of the Dominican Republic, and Arantxa Oyamburu, an aspiring dancer and Spanish immigrant, and how they played an important role against the dictatorship.
This is one of the most important stories for the Dominican people. In fact, every November 25th, on the anniversary of their execution in 1960 by the Trujillo regime, this nation celebrates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
