"The Cry of the Butterflies" will be the first Spanish series to be part of the streaming platform Star+, which belongs to Disney+, and among its actors are three renowned Cuban names.
The filming of the series ended at the end of last year and its plot is inspired by the story of Minerva Mirabal and her sisters, known as "the butterflies" and murdered on November 25, 1960 by order of Dominican ruler Rafael Leónidas Trujillo.
A specific premiere date is not yet known, although some media outlets claim it will be this year and other sources schedule it for 2023.
On the other hand, Colombia was chosen as the filming location, despite the story taking place in the Dominican Republic, and it will also have 13 episodes of approximately 45 minutes duration each.
The role of Trujillo was played by experienced Cuban actor Luis Alberto García and among "the butterflies" the actress Alina Robert can be seen in the role of Patria Mirabal, the Cuban woman that many will remember for her participation in the Nuestra Belleza Latina contest.
For the role of Petán Trujillo, the dictator's brother and pioneer of Dominican radio and television, actor Héctor Noas was chosen.
"The Cry of the Butterflies" is a co-production between Spain and Argentina, and had the support of Disney+, Gloriamundi Producciones, Debut y Despedida, Mediabyte and Tandem Films.
In addition to the Cuban actors, the audience will be able to see the work of other renowned international artists such as Belén Rueda, Willy Toledo, Essined Aponte, Susana Abaitua, Mercedes Sampietro and Camila Issa, among others.
