Cuban critic and historian Luciano Castillo was honored with the 2026 National Film Prize, a recognition that highlights decades of work dedicated to the documentation, research, and dissemination of the seventh art on the Island.
With a career closely linked to Cuban cinema, Castillo has developed extensive work as a researcher, programmer, and defender of audiovisual memory. His work has been associated with spaces and institutions such as the Cinemateca de Cuba and the Mediateca André Bazin, in addition to projects for analysis and preservation of the history of national cinema.
The award also underscores his role as a reference for several generations of film enthusiasts, critics, and young researchers who have found in his work a guide to better understand the history and present of Cuban cinema.
