The Olympic and world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Ismael Borrero, is at his home after recovering from COVID-19, according to a statement by the president of the National Wrestling Federation, Luis de la Portilla.
"He's already out, healthy and very strong psychologically. That's how it was from the very beginning. Now he will comply with the isolation that applies to everyone and when we can, he will return to the mats," he said.
Borrero, world champion in Las Vegas 2015, contracted the disease during the Ottawa pre-Olympic tournament, a competition in which Cuba obtained 10 spots heading to Tokyo. The rest of that delegation was put in quarantine when they arrived in Cuba, but no other positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 emerged.
The official also reported on the medical discharge given to the team's physiotherapist, Milena Rodríguez Peña, and confirmed that all members of the delegation that attended the Pan American and pre-Olympic tournaments last March in Ottawa, Canada, are now at their homes.
