Mexico City, July 26 (Prensa Latina) The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, celebrated today the 69th anniversary of Cuba's National Rebellion in his daily press conference, to which he invited singer-songwriter Amaury Pérez.

The president said that today is a special day in tribute to Cubans, to the people of José Martí, with singer-songwriter Amaury Pérez, who "is going to sing one, two or if possible three songs".

I assure you, he added, that we are going to have a great time, all those who watch the "morning briefing," as it is a special day dedicated to Cubans, he reiterated when announcing the brief musical concert by the island artist.

Shortly after, following the scheduled interventions on health and culture topics, López Obrador introduced Amaury in a dialogue between intimate friends.

He said that, "as we all know, there is a friendship between the peoples of Cuba and Mexico, and Amaury, like other Cuban singer-songwriters of the new song movement, who are all our friends (a statement that generated applause from the journalists) is visiting Mexico and we took the opportunity to invite him to this morning briefing".

We want, he expressed, him to speak what comes from his head and heart and sing to us because life is also joy.

The singer responded that he would be brief because he was somewhat hoarse, but above all because he was very moved, thanked him for the invitation and extended it to the cabinet, some of whose members he said he knew well.

I want to take this opportunity, he said, to thank President López Obrador and his cabinet for the solidarity, courage and generosity of standing by Cuba supporting us, understanding us, opening themselves in an intelligent and energetic way, and I as a people—which I can speak about this way—respect and greatly admire you.

López Obrador responded to the thanks and took the opportunity to request a song from him.

He recalled that Mexico is a precursor of the secular state and here we are in the Presidential Palace which in itself represents religious freedom and also for non-believers and free thinkers.

He asked him to perform the prayer to the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre, which has to do with the culture of that nation and other nations in the region.

The Virgin of Charity of El Cobre, he explained to the journalists, is the patroness of Cuba, and since it is a note or magnification of the Virgin Mary, he wanted today to extend it to the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patroness of Mexico.

He closed the concert with a well-known song in Mexico and all of Latin America, Hacerte Venir, with which he asked the Almighty to protect everyone, and he said that this work is a confession of one of the happiest days of his life.
