Loipa Araújo will teach virtual classes on Cuban dance groups today

The artistic associate director of the English National Ballet (ENB), Loipa Araújo, will share a virtual class today from London with various dance companies in Cuba, on the occasion of the 2020 British Culture Week.

At the request of this event, the teacher considered one of the four jewels of Cuban ballet, will offer a virtual class from the ENB headquarters that will be taken at the same time by companies from her native land such as Ballet Nacional, Danza Contemporánea, Acosta Danza and Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba.

The activity has been made possible by coordination from the United Kingdom Embassy on the Caribbean island, which is developing an extensive program of various events during the eighth edition of British Culture Week.

The dancer and choreographer of the United Kingdom company Rambert Miguel Altunaga will premiere online his work Corta distancia, which will be broadcast through the British Embassy's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts (@UKinCuba).

According to the creator, the piece aims to provide positivity, good energy and hope in this difficult year for everyone, in which it has been essential to learn to overcome distances in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

British Culture Week in Cuba includes multiple activities, from December 12 to 20, and opened with a theatrical production related to the magical world of Lewis Carroll, under the title of Alicia en busca del Conejo Blanco, by Teatro de Las Estaciones.

These days, the Universal Art building of the National Museum of Fine Arts displays digitally great works of British painting, belonging to the collections of the National Gallery in London and the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh.

Thanks to an alliance between the British embassy and the Office of the Historian of the City, the Amphitheater of the Historic Center of Havana will be used as an open-air cinema on December 18 to screen Only you, a 2019 British film starring Laia Costa and Josh O'Connor.

For the last day of the event, an online concert by young British singer Calum Scott was reserved, known since 2015 for his participation in Britain's Got Talent and for having reached number two on the United Kingdom singles chart.
