Cuban broadcaster Magdiel Pérez revealed the reasons why he decided to emigrate to the U.S., after two years living in the North American country.
This week the popular presenter inaugurated his own YouTube channel titled "Gente como uno", where he spoke precisely about the reason that led him to settle in the U.S.: his mother Elaine, a cancer survivor.
According to what Pérez stated, in 2014 his brother, who was already outside of Cuba with a scholarship, asked him for permission to go to the U.S. with his mom, to which he agreed. Of course, his mother put a condition on him that he later join them.
After four years, his mom was diagnosed with colon cancer and Magdiel was unable to leave Cuba. Although fortunately his mother overcame the disease, his brother could not stop working and, as he confessed, he understood that "it was the time to keep my word".

It was then that after the pandemic and the subsequent wave of migration being experienced on the island, he understood it was the time to fulfill the promise to his mom. "That was the fundamental reason why I decided to come to this country," assured the 48-year-old from Tunas.
"The strength of a mother, the heart close to you beating strong and that embrace has no equal. I am with her and I enjoy her every day. Whoever has her alive should enjoy her and love her to the utmost consequences, love her and hold her as I do with mine in these moments because there is no better gift in life than that," added Magdiel.
During his program, the presenter also spoke about the jobs he had during these two years, where he had to take on tasks such as working in a brick factory or washing dishes in a restaurant.
With them he managed to stabilize himself economically and buy his first car. Furthermore, for those who criticize those jobs, he said that "the shame is not in working honestly, but in profiting from improper things".
Currently he has undertaken a new project on the Internet that will bring "very special things". He also assured that he continues enjoying "every moment with my mother, hugging her and loving her like never before".
In Cuba, Magdiel Pérez achieved great popularity by presenting the Radio Rebelde program "Haciendo Radio" and the television magazine "Hola, Habana". He also combined his work as a radio presenter with that of presenter of political and cultural events.
