Liván Moinelo is well above Japanese baseball

Pinar native Liván Moinelo delighted once again with his talent this Saturday in Japanese baseball with his second quality outing in the same number of starts since he decided to debut as a starter in this 2024 season.

On Saturday he faced the Rakuten Eagles at Mobile Park in Sendai, in a matchup in which Moinelo went without a decision after not allowing hits or runs for 6 complete innings in the 5-4 victory of his SoftBank Falcons.

The left-handed pitcher from Pinar, who struck out 6 rivals and issued 3 walks in the game, improved his ERA to 1.29 to place himself among the leaders in that department in the Pacific League.

Now in the current season he has accumulated 14 innings of work and has only given up three hits. He has 10 strikeouts, four walks and has one loss with no wins despite the excellent performances.

In the NPB, the left-hander has participated in 308 games since his debut in 2017, maintaining a 19-10 record, with 40 saves and 135 holds. Before becoming a starter, he specialized in pitching the eighth inning with the SoftBank Falcons. In 314.1 innings of work he has struck out 432 batters (12.37 K9) and an ERA of 1.92 (67 ER).

Moinelo, without a doubt, is a pitcher who is above Japanese baseball and could perfectly pitch in the Major Leagues, but that is something that will hardly happen, as the Pinar native signed a record contract of 26.4 million dollars, an agreement in line with his level within the League.

The new contract will take effect during the 2025 season, and will make the Vueltabajero native the highest-paid player in NPB history along with his teammate, Mexican pitcher Roberto Osuna, who will begin earning that salary this same year.
