Poetess Lina de Feria was awarded the 2019 National Literature Prize, an award given to writers who have enriched Cuban literature and culture in general, as public recognition of their body of work.
Granted unanimously, this honor comes to this lady of lyric poetry "for the quality and persistence of her profoundly human poetry; because in her work she has been able to encompass the problems of the individual, those of society. For a peculiar relationship with language and for her contributions to Cuban poetry."
Also unanimously, Alberto Prieto Rozos was awarded the 2019 National Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities, "for his contributions to the study of the history of Latin America and the Caribbean, characterized by their creative dimension."
In the same way, the 2019 National Publishing Prize was selected by absolute agreement, which went to editor Norma Suárez Suárez, due to her "brilliant and long trajectory within the publishing world, with 50 years of experience in the difficult and complex field of scientific-technical literature." All three awards will be presented at the next edition of the Havana Book Fair.
On the other hand, the jury that determined the National Prize for Cultural Heritage unanimously chose Dr. Alicia García Santana, among other reasons, for her brilliant and comprehensive professional trajectory oriented toward the study and protection of heritage. The prize was presented to her yesterday, by Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture, at the Museum of Decorative Arts.
