Cuban triple jumper Leyanis Pérez won the gold medal in the women's triple jump at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026, recording a mark of 14.78 meters during the athletics program on August 4.

Pérez, the reigning world champion both outdoors and indoors, had also served as flag bearer for Cuba's delegation at the Games' opening ceremony. Her teammate Liadagmis Povea took second place with a jump of 14.71 meters, her best mark of the season, completing a Cuban sweep of the podium in the event.

The athlete from Pinar del Río said she and her coach decided not to push for a bigger mark given the repeated interruptions that affected the flow of the competition. The result added to her medal collection a title that had been missing from her résumé: a Central American and Caribbean Games crown.

Pérez's gold became one of the standout moments of Cuba's track and field performance at these Games, as the island's delegation competes for as many medals as possible.
