The Cuban Leuris Pupo has been officially invited to the President's Cup for Pistol and Rifle Shooting, scheduled for November 3-10 in Krakow, Poland.
According to the national commissioner of this sport, the runner-up in the 25-meter rapid-fire pistol at the recent Tokyo Olympic Games and his coach Meinardo Torres will participate in the prestigious tournament with the presence of the top 12 ranked in the world rankings in eight disciplines.
Pupo, winner of gold in the Olympic version of London 2012, appears after his silver medal in third place on the ranking, which is why he has been announced on the website of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) among the 96 competitors eligible to attend.
The Caribbean native rose to that position with 3,500 points, preceded only by Frenchman Jean Quiquampoix (6,250), the champion in the Japanese capital, and German Christian Reitz (4,050), gold medalist in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 edition.
The other competitors invited at the expense of the ISSF are Peeter Olesk (Estonia- 3,147), Yuehong Li (China- 3,000), Clement Bessaguet (France- 2,940), Oliver Geis (Germany- 2,740), Daeyoon Han (South Korea- 2,500), Leonid Ekimov (Russia- 2,290), Marko Carrillo (Peru- 2,290), Oskar Miliwek (Poland- 2,267), and Ozgur Varlik (Turkey- 2,193).
For this event, formerly known as the Finals Cup and held every four years, the following competitions were also selected: 10-meter air rifle, three-position rifle, and 10-meter air pistol for each gender, in addition to the 25-meter pistol for women.
In other news in this sport, but in the Americas region, the I Pan American Championship and V South American Championship scheduled for October 13-23 at the Cap. Fat. José Abelardo Quiñones shooting range at the Las Palmas air base in Lima, Peru, was canceled.
