Singer Leoni Torres, one of the most popular Cuban musicians today, has been in the city of Miami for several weeks, where he decided to establish himself "for an extended period" to continue his successful career.

Author of hits such as Amor Bonito, Soledad, and Para que un día vuelvas, Torres has developed a remarkable trajectory as a solo artist following his departure from La Orquesta Charanga Habanera, where he performed more than two decades ago several of the hits of the group directed by David Calzado.

The musician has increased his popularity in recent years due to his versatility in interpreting various styles and his talent as a singer and composer, qualities that have led him to fill large theaters in Cuba and stadiums such as La Ciudad Deportiva de La Habana.

In recent years his career has achieved greater international projection and has joined the catalog of Magnus Media, the company of the famous singer of Puerto Rican origin Marc Anthony, who has worked with other Cuban artists such as Gente de Zona and Cimafunk.

Torres has traveled to Miami on several occasions where he recently recorded the song "Para mi viejo" with Willy Chirino, one of the most recognized Cuban musicians in exile.

The song, dedicated to Father's Day, was applauded by followers of both artists in both the United States and Cuba; however, Torres was the target of criticism for the collaboration with Chirino and was accused through social media of being a "hired hand," a "mercenary," and having "double standards."

"This project has nothing to do with politics or ideologies. Willy Chirino, a legendary name in Cuban music, expressed his desire to record a song with the well-known Cuban singer Leoni Torres, an artist that Chirino has admired for a long time, and those desires are becoming a reality," explained the statement.

Torres was one of the artists who condemned, along with his wife, the talented actress Yuliet Cruz, what happened on July 11 during and after the massive protests on the island.

He had previously participated in the sit-in in front of the Ministry of Culture on November 27, when hundreds of artists gathered to call for an end to censorship and freedom of expression.

His position against the use of force against civil society earned him strong criticism and insults in state digital media.

Sources close to the artist told Cuba Noticias 360 that the musician was disappointed and that his critical stance had brought consequences for his career on the island.

In recent days the artist announced two concerts in Miami with Willy Chirino, a duet from which the public expects further collaborations after their first and successful debut. Torres is one of the Cuban artists nominated for the next edition of the Latin Grammy Awards for his album Alma cubana, released with the Miami-based company Puntilla Music.
