From the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, the news of Cuban ballplayer Pedro Poll's hospitalization became known thanks to the impact of social media. A fact that, without a doubt, amid New Year celebrations, caught the attention of Cubans.
On December 31st, Cuban ballplayer Pedro Poll was hospitalized in intensive care due to a heart attack. A fact that led him to remain in "Saturnino Lora" Hospital for five days.
After an intense battle, on Friday, January 5th, the news of Pedro Poll's discharge became known. A fact with which followers of this sport on the island felt great joy.
After several speculations on social media, the former player himself shared the news on his Facebook profile. With the text "Here I am for those who thought I was done. You already know I'm discharged. There's plenty of Pedro Poll left", the news came accompanied by several snapshots of the Cuban ballplayer alongside the medical staff.
In this way, the Santiago de Cuba coaching legend in Cuban Baseball is back home with his family, a man who is history within this sport.
Throughout his career, Poll was part of the historic Aplanadora de las Avispas, with which he achieved six national titles. Similarly, he had the honor of wearing the Cuba team jersey and representing the island in some international tournaments.
Over his 20-year career, he achieved an offensive average of .303 with 95 home runs and 288 doubles. He also accumulated a total of 931 RBIs, 699 runs scored, and an offensive line of .364 OBP/ .411 SLU/ .775 OPS.
