We are precisely in Granma where what is Cuban is born, and that is one of the greatest gifts they have given me, expressed the distinguished musician Wilfredo (Pachy) Naranjo, who was honored in this Sacred Altar of the Homeland, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
At the celebration that took place in the protocol hall of the emblematic National Monument, the director of the popular Original de Manzanillo orchestra experienced strong emotions this Monday, among them the surprising presence of the renowned pianist, composer and arranger Frank Fernández, whom he considers his brother.
Accompanied by family members, Naranjo thanked the highest authorities of Granma province for the gesture, which he described as a significant moment in his life.
Along with his attachment to the city of Manzanillo, the winner of the 2011 National Music Prize highlighted the 55-year trajectory of the Súper Charanga de Cuba, a group that has honored the musical staff and traditions of the country, always from this eastern homeland.
They say that talent makes men famous, but humility and simplicity make Pachy a giant, added the Granma labor leader while emphasizing the human values of the Original's leader.
In the well-deserved tribute, representatives from various sectors and organizations of Granma province and the municipality of Manzanillo also participated, including Culture, Heritage, among others.
