Makeup Artist Magaly Pompa is the 2023 National Cinema Award Winner

The 2023 National Cinema Award, granted by Icaic, was presented in Havana to makeup specialist Magaly Pompa.

Pompa, born in Granma province in 1945, began her career in this art in 1962, when she joined Icaic's makeup department.

The Prensa Latina agency highlights that it was with Armando Gatti's film El otro Cristóbal (1964) that she began her work as an assistant in this specialty.

As part of her professional career, she has worked on more than 40 national and international productions directed by important Cuban filmmakers such as Manuel Octavio Gómez, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, Humberto Solás, Enrique Pineda Barnet, and Fernando Pérez.

Among the films where she was in charge of makeup are Lucía, Los días del agua, Cecilia, Amor vertical, El Benny, José Martí: el ojo del canario, Oscuros amores, among others.

Pompa holds the Raúl Gómez García medal and the National Culture Distinction, and in 2017 she received the Special Recognition granted by Icaic for lifetime achievement.
