The teacher Digna Guerra teaches how to sing the National Anthem correctly

Children from the Unión Internacional de Estudiantes Primary School and the Fructuoso Rodríguez Secondary School exchanged with teacher Digna Guerra at the headquarters of the Coro Nacional de Cuba and received instructions on how our glorious Hymn of Bayamo, which became our National Anthem, should be sung, in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Beginning of the Independence Struggles and the first singing of the Hymn of Bayamo.

"The Anthem must be sung correctly. I think that at dawn, in the morning assembly of each school, the recording of the Anthem should be played for the students, because the ear is receptive. When we go to work in the morning we listen to the Anthem almost recited, and our Anthem deserves the utmost respect and for the children to sing it correctly. That is what all Cubans aspire to. I believe that the Anthem is one of those patriotic values that we must rescue and through its correct rendition we will already be winning," said the also National Prize for Music laureate.

The Anthem is, along with the Flag and the Shield, a national symbol. It was composed by Perucho Figueredo and orchestrated by Manuel Muñoz. It is a battle march that exhorted all Cubans to take up arms and fight for the homeland, oppressed at that time by Spanish rule. It was also known as La Bayamesa.

The Journey for the Day of Cuban Culture, called #ConLaMismaEstrella, will be celebrated throughout the month of October and will be dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Beginning of the Independence Struggles, the first singing of the Hymn of Bayamo, the bicentennial of the founding of the Academia de Bellas Artes San Alejandro and the 70th anniversary of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba.

Likewise it will be dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, the 165th of José Martí, the 90th of Ernesto Che Guevara, the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Sistema de Casas de Cultura and the inclusion of Punto Cubano in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
