To award the prize, the Organizing Committee based its decision on the fact that "Nancy Morejón's poetry is built on four lines: modernism, postcolonialism, neocolonialism, and feminism"
The Golden Key of Smederevo 2023, the most prestigious award of the International Poetry Festival Autumn Poetic Smederevo, was awarded to Cuban poet Nancy Morejón, National Literature Prize winner in 2001, and will be presented to her in the month of October.
This was announced through Twitter by Cuba's ambassador to Serbia, doctor in Sciences Leyde Ernesto Rodríguez Hernández.
To award the prize, in addition to taking into account the prolific trajectory of the also essayist, critic, translator, and winner of numerous awards, the Organizing Committee based its decision on the fact that "Nancy Morejón's poetry is built on four lines: modernism, postcolonialism, neocolonialism, and feminism".
In her poetry can be appreciated "different cultural models: Cuban, African, Spanish, and diverse cultures connected to Cubans abroad". In that way she achieves creating "a national literary history in the traditional sense", indicates the source of information.
