Cuban Taimí Balbuzano directs a youth orchestra in Miami and wins an award in Austria

Taimy Balbuzano is co-founder and artistic director of the non-profit organization Musicall.

The Musicall Youth Orchestra, directed by Cuban Taimy Balbuzano in Miami, won the first prize in the international Summa Cum Laude competition of the Vienna Youth Music Festival in Austria.

The news was announced on Facebook by the non-profit organization Musicall, to which the orchestra belongs.

"We are proud to announce that after a long journey of hard work and dedication, our Youth Orchestra has won the 1st Prize, with outstanding success at Summa Cum Laude Youth Music Festival", the organization reported.

"Among 12 countries and 25 orchestras, Musicall Youth Orchestra has the honor of representing the USA and Florida in this competition".

"We want to express our gratitude to all faculty members along with students and parents who made this wonderful experience possible. Thank you for the support and love you have put into this beautiful effort".

The youth orchestra won the award in the Summa Ensembles category for its performance of the famous song "El manisero", by Cuban Moisés Simón Rodríguez, known as Moisés Simons. The prize was awarded with the rating of "outstanding success".

The director of the youth orchestra, Taimy Balbuzano, graduated in piano teaching and choral directing from the National School of Art in Havana, Cuba, in 1995. She is co-founder and artistic director of Musicall, as well as a member of the board of directors.

"Her vast experience working with children makes her a unique and invaluable teacher in service to our community", the organization says about her.

The founding of Musicall in 2013 responded to its creators' belief in the transformative power of music education.
