Actress Yuliet Cruz, based in Miami for several years, will be the protagonist of the new film by Cuban director Rolando Díaz, Adiós Cuba.

In a message through his Facebook account, the filmmaker confirmed his decision and praised the actress's work. "Yuliet impressed me in the production of Aire Frío, under the direction of Carlos Celdrán. I still have very present my visit to the theater, accompanied by two good friends: Fernando Pérez and Gloria María Cossío".

"I was moved by the complex character she played in Conducta, by Ernesto Daranas. And in the suffering woman in Melaza, by Carlos Lechuga. Her characters have always touched me deeply", continued the director of the very popular Los pájaros tirándole a la escopeta.

"It is very important for Adiós Cuba to have such a solid actress. We are already taking the first steps to make Caridad her character and find, between the two of us, the intense and passionate woman that this story needs", Díaz specified.

"In Adiós Cuba, Yuliet will coexist with three other characters and with six witnesses who will recount, for the theatrical work that he will direct in the film, stories about their departures from the Island that will leave us bewildered. It is an immense joy for me to work with her", concluded the Cuban filmmaker, based in Valencia for years.

For her part, Yuliet Cruz shared a video on her Instagram account in which she shows her delight at being part of this project: "I am very happy, extremely grateful to Rolando, to the whole team. There is a cast of very beautiful, very talented actors, just like the staff. So another gift that life gives me. What can I say to you? Grateful, blessed and happy to be part of this project".

A graduate of the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), Yuliet Cruz has received several awards during her career, among which stands out the ACE Critics' Award from the New York Latino Film Festival for Best Supporting Actress for La Película de Ana in 2014 and the Best Female Performance Award in theater for the work Mecánica in 2015.

As for Rolando Díaz, he has had one of the most consistent careers of any emigrated Cuban director. He has directed shorts and feature films, documentaries and fiction in Spain, Dominican Republic and the USA. His most relevant works, acclaimed by the public and critics, in addition to the aforementioned Los pájaros tirándole a la escopeta, are En tres y dos, Melodrama, El largo viaje de Rústico and Si me comprendieras.
