Juan Formell Has His Star at Fábrica de Arte Cubano

Juan Formell, the unforgettable driving force behind Los Van Van, now has a star in his honor at Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC).

It was his son Samuel Formell who announced the news through the orchestra's Facebook profile: "For the first time a popular dance music orchestra invited to Fábrica de Arte Cubano ... and we will unveil a star in tribute to our father Juan Formell Cortina".

Formell joins other great figures that are part of this constellation that shines on the ground of the FAC, a tribute that the cultural center directed by musician X Alfonso has been holding every year for these essential figures of Cuban culture.

Precisely this Sunday, El tren de la música cubana performed in Nave 4 of FAC, with a concert that brought together audiences from various generations and in which several songs from their new album 'Modo Van Van' could be enjoyed, along with classic pieces from the orchestra.

With recordings such as 'El baile del buey cansao' (1982), 'Anda, ven y muévete' (1984), 'Azúcar' (1992), 'Te pone la cabeza mala' (1997), 'Chapeando' (2004) and 'La maquinaria' (2011), Los Van Van have made the entire island dance.

Now with the premiere of 'Modo Van Van', dedicated to bassist, composer and arranger Juan Carlos Formell who died on May 26, 2023 in New York, the group led by Samuel returns with renewed rhythms, but without forgetting its distinctive mark.

The album is composed of 9 songs among which several winks to technology stand out such as "Solicitud de amistad" and "Modo Van Van" itself. Additionally, there are "Tienes que parar", "Ven, dame un abrazo", "Tierra, Mar y Cielo"; "Bla, Bla, Bla", "Tu tiempo pasó", "Perfectamente imperfecta" and "Canta la Ceiba".
