Cuban pianist and composer José María Vitier, National Music Prize 2021, will perform a concert today in this capital as part of the celebrations for the island's culture day.

The majestic venue of the Cercle de l'Union Interalliée hosts the presentation of the renowned artist, promoted by the Cuba Coopération France association, the Cuban embassy in France and the mission of the Caribbean nation to UNESCO.

Vitier stands out for the comprehensiveness of his work, which includes popular music, jazz and classical forms, with a repertoire featuring emblematic pieces such as Fresa y Chocolate, Misa Cubana and En silencio ha tenido que ser.

Among the pianist's recognitions are also the Golden Ocella for best soundtrack at the 1988 Venice International Film Festival and a Grammy nomination in 2000.

Tomorrow the activities on French soil will continue with the Cuban Night gala for the culture day of the island nation, which commemorates the singing for the first time, on October 20, 1868, of the national anthem.
