Jorge Perugorría: always doing

In his Gorría gallery-workshop the journalist from the Cuban News Agency converses with the protagonist of Strawberry and Chocolate.

The dialogue began with the cultural promoter. What can you tell us in advance about the Gibara Festival?

"We've already started work on the Gibara International Film Festival, which this year will be from July 5 to 11. There will be many surprises, both in the films and in the art we're going to bring, very important contemporary Cuban artists, musicians; we'll talk about names later, but they're beautiful things, there's a lot of enthusiasm about the Festival, a lot of people who want to participate."

As an actor, he returns to a character that challenged him from literature: "The second season of Mario Conde is being prepared. The first came out under the name of Four Seasons in Havana, and we think that this year or next year the second installment can be filmed, inspired by Leonardo Padura's novels."

But the director continues to reveal even more: "I'm preparing a project called Havana 500, still in the script phase, and I also have two or three projects with young directors, who are trying to figure out how to make their films."

For the paintbrush, a rest: "With the visual arts theme I'm not preparing any exhibition for now, rather supporting and opening the space to other important Cuban creators who can show their work here in the gallery and, besides, with the graffiti initiative in the neighborhood: right now if you go to the parks here in San Isidro they all have graffiti by important artists, Cuban and international graffiti artists who come to San Isidro to do graffiti and who are really giving the neighborhood another image, a very beautiful one; so we're in this community project, here in the gallery, which really excites us."

"Doing things, always doing things..." are his parting words. He insists on the verb to do like someone who doesn't think he'll ever stop.
