Jorge Perugorría will be in the miniseries La máquina in 2023

Almost 30 years ago, we saw Jorge Perugorría achieve brilliance in Strawberry and Chocolate, a film by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabío, which ranks among the best Cuban feature films of all time. Later, he has equally shown his talent in different productions and has become one of our most media-prominent actors.

Among the most recent news that emerged about his career was the Spanish series Doctor Portuondo, premiered in 2021 on Filmin, where he played the lead role.

Around a year has passed since the launch of that fiction and sooner rather than later we will see him in another, called La máquina, an original miniseries from the Hulu platform, which will also be available on Star+ and Disney+. Its premiere date is still unknown, but it is expected to arrive on screens in 2023.

The plot of the material, produced by Searchlight Television in collaboration with ESPN KNOCKOUT, has been summarized as the story of Esteban (Gael García Bernal), "a boxer at the twilight of his career, whose shrewd manager, Andy (Diego Luna), gets him one last opportunity to fight for a title. However, to reach fight night, they will have to face a mysterious force from the underworld."

According to Infobae, Perugorría will play the role of Sixto, a figure from Cuban boxing, "who is Esteban's longtime trainer and functions as a father figure and mentor. He is a man from a simpler time, wise enough to see through the greed that he believes has taken over the sport to which he has dedicated his life."

Luna and García Bernal are also producers of the work. Other actresses who participated in the audiovisual are Lucía Méndez, as Josefina, and Eiza González, in the role of Irasema.

The chapters feature writing by Marco Ramírez, recognized for his work on Daredevil, The Defenders, and Orange Is the New Black.

Regarding the character of Sixto, the Caribbean actor left a record, showing on his Instagram account how he was "saying goodbye" to that role, by shaving his head once filming was completed.
