Johen Lefont set a new world record in ball control by striking it 172 times with his head while in a swimming pool over the course of one minute.
The feat achieved by the former water polo player was accomplished at the Varadero beach resort, as part of the activities of the III Open Waters Crossing Gran Retto Cuba, which was inaugurated on Saturday morning.
The previous record was 167 touches, set by him in 2018 at the Baraguá pool complex in the capital.
"I'm super happy. I prepared very well for this. The family atmosphere was a bit tense because I wasn't able to break the other record this morning due to weather conditions, but I felt very confident," Lafont told Prensa Latina.
"I have that leg and arm movement very well coordinated and I can stabilize myself, keep myself afloat well and achieve the hit in the vertical as planned," added the record holder.
Amid hugs and signs of affection from those present, Lefont wanted to dedicate this performance to his family and to all those who could not be with him today, in his first record registered in Matanzas, his native province.
"I want to thank everyone for the support they have always given me," he said.
According to his words, this is world record number 12, 10 of them ratified by the Guinness Book of Records and one pending validation.
