A young Cuban sprinter who emigrated, Jenns Reynold Fernández, broke the national record in the 60 meters and now leads that distance at the world level so far this season.
This weekend, Jenns amazed the world with his mark that places him at the front of the 60 meters in the world, which he achieved at Palaindoor Ancona on January 28.
The Cuban sprinter posted the best mark for a runner who (represents or does not represent the Cuban Athletics Federation), surpassing Yunier Pérez and Freddy Mayola, who had 6.49 seconds, explains DeporCuba.
Let us recall that Jens, in May 2022, left an Antillean training camp after landing at Barajas airport in Spain.
At that time, he explained why he made that decision: "Many decisions made by the athletics leaders did not make sense to me, decisions that, as an athlete, hurt you; and it hurts more not being able to express yourself because they see it as disrespectful if you don't agree with the decisions they make. I wanted to shine and I saw myself with the possibility of being great in sports and if I had stayed in Cuba, many doors would have been closed to me."
In addition to becoming the fastest Cuban of all time at that distance, right now he is number 1 on the world rankings for the 60 meters so far in 2024.
Although he no longer competes for the Cuban Athletics Federation, Jenns Reynold Fernández is still registered with World Athletics under the Cuban flag.
