The film, a comedy starring Cubans Alina Robert and Sian Chiong, will be exhibited next February during the Miami Ibero-American Film Festival
The feature film debut of Cuban filmmaker Jazz Vilá, Farándula: La Película, will premiere at the Miami Ibero-American Film Festival (IAFFM) on February 7th.
The announcement was made by the creator himself through his Instagram account, where he also shared images from the film.
The movie, which had its world premiere at the Havana Film Festival in New York in 2023, is an 80-minute comedy based on Vilá's successful homonymous theatrical work and was filmed entirely in the City of the Sun. With a duration of 80 minutes, it features a diverse cast led by talented Spanish actor Mike Fajardo, alongside Cuban performers Alina Robert and Sian Chiong, and experienced Venezuelan actress Scarlet Ortiz.
Directed and co-produced by Jazz Vilá, together with Tony Cortés and Mabel Toledo, who also have exclusive participation in the plot, the film presents special performances that include Aylín Mujica, Nadia Rowinsky from Uruguay, Noris Joffre from Puerto Rico, and the presence of Cuban singer El Chacal.
The IAFFM, which will be held from February 2nd to 10th, is an international film festival that promotes films from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal.
The work on which the film is based premiered last September in the programming of the Teatro Repertorio Español. Inspired by Vilá's experiences, the comedy of errors (about deception, emigration, addictions, and sexuality) featured Jazz Vilá as Lorenzo, Yordanka Ariosa in the role of Helena, Catherine Núñez as Sara, and Sian Chiong playing El Yoyo.
In April 2002, Jazz Vilá presented at the Paseo de las Artes in Miami the work Rascacielos, a play that premiered in 2014 in the Adolfo Llauradó Hall in Havana and starred the late actress Broselianda Hernández.
The work, the first major success of Jazz Vilá Projects (JVP), the theater company founded and directed by Vilá himself in 2015, exceeded 80 sold-out performances on the Island and was seen by approximately 15,000 spectators in two seasons and a national tour.
