Hereda San Pablo Burgos, where Cuban Jasiel Rivero plays, completed the feat today and took home the championship trophy in the Basketball Champions League, considered the second highest-level tournament of that sport in Europe, after the Euroleague.

The Burgos team made history by achieving the club's first title in that type of events, and no less than against a historic team, the Greek AEK, which they surpassed with a score of 85-74, to proclaim themselves champions with total merit.

In that decisive match played at the mythical OAKA in Athens, Greece, which hosted the Final 8 of the European tournament, AEK dominated the first quarter 24-14, but their opponents reacted in a second period that they won by a wide margin of 35-12, to go into halftime with a 13-point lead.

Later, in the third quarter the Burgos team maintained the pace by prevailing 19-13 and although they lost in the last 10 minutes of action with a score of 17-25, everything was already decided in favor of the Spanish team, which was impeccable in that competition.

In the collective statistics it is reflected that the Spanish team had an effectiveness of 50.8 percent in field goal attempts, with 31 baskets in 61 attempts; while they made 17 three-pointers in 35 opportunities, for an outstanding 48.6 percent, and in free throws they were more modest with a 54.5 percent success rate (6/11).

For the winners, Tahaddeus Mcfadden stood out offensively with 18 points and Omar Cook (15), in addition to Miquel Salvó (12), along with Alex Renfroe and Vitor Venite, both with 11 points; while the Cuban Rivero was only able to contribute two points, according to the official tournament website.

Nevertheless, the basketball player from Havana became the first player from Cuba to play in a final in the Basketball Champions League, which is undoubtedly something historic.

In this way, those led by Joan Peñarroya celebrated the conquest of an unprecedented title for the Hereda San Pablo Burgos club, which always put a lot of effort and grit into each play in search of making history, which they achieved thanks to the collective work of its members.
