With 16 points, four rebounds and one assist, Cuban power forward Jasiel Rivero of Valencia Basket took the MVP award in his team's 94-93 victory over Real Madrid in the ACB League.
At the WiZink Center in Madrid, the Cuban played almost 24 minutes and had a shooting efficiency of 78 percent from the field and a rating of 15.
The team led by Joan Peñarroya won the first two quarters 31-30 and 20-18 and with that three-point advantage reached the final quarter, as in the third period both teams scored 23 points.
The final minutes were nail-biting, and despite Madrid winning the fourth quarter 22-20, their push was not enough to catch up to the oranges.
Statistically, the matchup was very even, and the oranges were superior in two-point shooting accuracy and play under the boards, while the whites had better accuracy from beyond the arc and from the free throw line.
Now, with 18 games played, Valencia Basket is in fourth place in the standings with 12 wins and six losses. For its part, Madrid remains in first place with 16 and 4, but sees Barcelona closing in.
Next Sunday in matchday 22, Valencia will visit Río Breogán, a team that sits in tenth place in the standings.
