Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, founder of the Nueva Trova Movement, is part of the International Committee that promotes the campaign in favor of awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve medical contingent.
This was announced by the website Pensando Américas, part of the Network in Defense of Humanity, on its Twitter profile, and highlighted in a video published in the tweet itself relevant aspects of the trajectory of the distinguished Caribbean troubadour.
"The renowned singer Silvio Rodríguez is part of the International Committee in charge of promoting the campaign in favor of awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to the Cuban doctors who are members of the #BrigadaHenryReeve. #NobelForCubanDoctors", the organization tweeted.
So far, dozens of activists, personalities, parliamentarians and intellectuals have joined the petition for Cuban health professionals to receive the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, for their solidarity and humanitarian work in various nations around the world in response to COVID-19.
According to official sources, about 26 brigades belonging to the International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics "Henry Reeve" are working in about twenty countries, where they have treated more than 26,000 COVID-19 patients and have saved the lives of more than 976 people affected by the pandemic.
In this regard, distinguished political scientist Noam Chomsky recently said that Cuba is the only country that has shown genuine internationalism during the coronavirus crisis.
According to the rules, nominations for the award can only be made by parliamentarians, academics, judges of international courts, previously awarded persons and active or retired members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and have a deadline of January 31st each year.
