The XXXIV edition of the Festival Il Cinema Ritrovato (Rediscovered Cinema) in Bologna 2020 will exhibit three restored films by Cuban director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, confirmed by the island's embassy in Italy.
According to a note from the diplomatic mission, the films that will participate in the event scheduled for August 25-31 in the capital city of the Emilia-Romagna region were restored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, United States, in collaboration with the Cinemateca de Cuba.
On the 25th, the Cinemalibero section will present the fiction feature film The Death of a Bureaucrat (1966) and the documentary The Art of Tobacco (1974), indicated the statement.
On the other hand, on the closing day The Last Supper (1976) will be screened, included in the 'Classics of Venice' section of the 77th International Exhibition of Cinematographic Art in Venice, which will be part, on this occasion, of the Bologna festival.
This Gutiérrez Alea film is an ironic allegory about the religious hypocrisy of colonial society in the 18th century, although with echoes very close to the contemporary, noted the synopsis published in the statement.
