Carrying the weight of his surname and history on his shoulders, the young son of Javier Sotomayor, Jaxier, continues to show signs of his quality and was crowned champion at the Absolute Club Championship in Indoor Track in Madrid.

"Today my happiness overflows, just on the eve of the 35th anniversary of my indoor world record. And it is that the third of my heroes, Jaxier (my third J) has managed to jump over two meters and win the Absolute Club Championship in Indoor Track in Madrid", Sotomayor wrote on his social networks.

The young jumper managed to clear the bar at 2.01 m on this March 3, 2024 in Madrid, Spain, a step forward in his progression in the event.

A legendary jump, the feat of Javier Sotomayor

"It was a jump of 2.01 meters. A height that we have been working on and it came at a very special moment for me… We achieved a first goal, and I speak in plural because it is difficult for me to separate paternal love. You did it at 16 years old. Keep pushing, goals come from within us. A nice gift. I will also keep this date with great significance. Once again… dad loves you, I am very proud of you", Sotomayor added.

Javier Sotomayor prefers not to subject his son to superficial comparisons, which perhaps contribute nothing to the development of his offspring, Jaxier, a young talent in athletics who decided to dedicate himself to the same event as his father.

"As long as he maintains the standards and the average at a global level, I think he is on the right track, confessed the "Prince of the Heights" to the Spanish sports newspaper AS in 2022. At 14 years old, Jaxier became the Under-16 champion of Spain, the country where he trains the high jump.
