The Mexican musician Armando Manzanero, visiting Cuba for the first time, recorded three of his songs in Havana together with the popular Cuban performer Haila María Mompié that will be included in his next record production.
Manzanero, 82 years old, has just performed a unique concert in front of the emblematic Malecón of the Cuban capital, in which he counted Mompié among his guest artists.
With all respect, Haila sings to Armando Manzanero, is the title of the new material, which will be a tribute to the legend of Mexican romantic music, and will contain songs from his repertoire adapted to the salsa genre.
According to the author of the hit Somos novios, it was a privilege to be able to record with Haila, a singer he admires and whose work he respects greatly; both artists shared the stage this Sunday in Manzanero's first concert on the island, in which Omara Portuondo and Eliades Ochoa were also present as guests.
This Monday the musician returned to his country, but not before confessing that he would like to return, as he loves Cuba and its people, an island that has given so many and such good musicians, he said.
