Cuban singer Gloria Estefan became the first Latin artist to enter the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
"Thank you so much to my incredible fans who, by listening to my music, have made it possible for me to receive this great honor," the singer wrote on her social networks.
"It's something incredibly special, it's a very great privilege. I never dreamed I could be among so many people who have changed music. For me, music has been my salvation my whole life, so being able to be in this Hall of Fame is something really special," she said to Despierta América.
Her husband, music producer Emilio Estefan was quick to celebrate the great news with all his followers and shout from the rooftops how proud he is of Gloria and her achievements.
"I am so proud of you Baby… Since the first song you wrote, you have been able to touch the hearts of millions and bring love and unity through your words to the world!", he expressed.
Gloria had previously been nominated but not selected, and now she leads the list of the seven songwriters who entered the Hall of Fame in 2023.
"Being the first in anything at this age is fantastic," said the 65-year-old singer, who recalled all the obstacles and "nos" that both she and Emilio received from the beginning of their careers, and how they always bet on each other and supported one another to get to where they are today.
Songwriters can only be nominated to enter the Hall of Fame 20 years after their first commercial success, and it is the greatest honor for any songwriter.
The singer born in Havana has sold over 100 million records and is considered one of the greatest female artists of all time and one of the Hispanic artists who has most successfully achieved crossover in the United States.
Gloria has written countless songs throughout her career, among them three international number ones and seven number ones on the Latin hits charts.
